Families and children

We place great emphasis on being a family-friendly museum. It's up to you whether you visit us as a family - or your children choose to explore the museum on their own. Either way, we offer a variety of opportunities: Everybody is welcome at the CITY ATELIER, where you can try out various techniques and materials together with artists - there are no age restrictions and you don't need to register in advance. For children, there are multi-day holiday workshops, and younger art fans can even hold their birtday parties here.

CITY ATELIER – get creative!

The CITY ATELIER is the place where art is created in Lehmbruck Museum. Here, you can give free rein to your imagination in an inspiring atmosphere and discover and develop your own creativity. On Sundays from 2-5 p.m. there is an opportunity to watch artists at work and to learn how they use various materials and techniques. Discover your own potential and meet other creative people! Anyone can take part provided there are places available - registration is not required and there are no age restrictions. You can find current topics and dates in our calendar of events.

Cost: Admission (EUR 9 / concessions EUR 5, family ticket EUR 15) plus EUR 5 material costs for each adult, children under 15 free

Art for two – for parents with babies and small children

Bring along your little one and enjoy some time out in the museum. Here, you can discover and experience the museum with other parents in a relaxed atmosphere. Every tour is designed for you and your child (see age group). Experience the museum as a place of playful learning, offering possibilities for creative experiences and interesting conversations. After the tour there is time for discussion and your own artistic experiences. Parents are welcome to breastfeed, feed their children and change nappies as required.

Children's parties at Lehmbruck Museum – the joy of creativity

Children aged between 6 and 13 can celebrate their birthdays with us. Art and fun are guaranteed with museum rallies, thrilling stories about art and, most importantly, creativity in the surroundings of our collection. With paint, clay, wood, talc or wire, children work with art professionals to create their own works, which they can then take home with them.

A birthday party at the museum with up to 15 people lasts for two hours. There is also the option of booking children's birthday parties lasting 150 minutes, including time for some small refreshments.

Cost: Birthday party (15 people, 120 minutes): EUR 140, Birthday party (15 people, 150 minutes, with party table and decorations): EUR 160

Holidays at Lehmbruck Museum

During the school holidays, the CITY ATELIER offers a new workshop for children aged 6-12 years every week. The courses are hosted by experienced artists and art educators. The workshops take place from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Youth meets art – a meeting place for art-loving youngsters

Be it workshops or projects, visits to exhibitions, excursions, parties, meetings with artists, experiencing art you can touch or simply appreciating how much fun art can be - we offer young people all this and more in Youth meets art. In workshops we go hands-on with artistic techniques, while on excursions we discover some of the many different shapes art can take.

Family tour – together on a tour of discovery through the museum

At regular intervals on Sundays at 11.30 a.m. we offer family tours focusing on various different topics, giving families the opportunity to discover the museum and learn about the artworks together.
