Tony Cragg
New Presentation of the Collection

Tony Cragg’s sculptures are rhythmic upwards spirals, sinuous, stacked, folded or twisted, a distinctive formal language unique to the work of the Turner Prize winner. Mysteriously abstract and at the same time familiar, the sculptures reveal surprising new aspects from every angle. The silhouettes of human faces appear and disappear again as we walk around them.

The sculptures appeal to our emotions and so Tony Cragg is convinced that sculpture, its form, surface and material can affect and thus permanently change people. Inspired by the increasing fusion of nature, humanity and technology, he creates sculptures of subtle sensuality.
Tony Cragg, actually Sir Anthony Douglas Cragg, was born in Liverpool, UK, in 1949. His plasticine assemblages established his fame in the 1980s and he quickly became one of the foremost sculptors of the present day. From 2009 to 2013, Tony Cragg was rector of Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He was awarded renowned prizes such as the Turner Prize and the Praemium Imperiale. Tony Cragg lives and works in Wuppertal today.
