Expressionism
Awakening and Reinvention

23 March until 12 May 2024

Expressionism renewed art with revolutionary ambition at the beginning of the 20th century. Artists' communities such as the "Brücke" and "Der Blaue Reiter" had a decisive influence on the style in Germany. The aim was to capture the essence of a subject artistically: with two-dimensional compositions, bright colors and quick brushstrokes. Detached from the academic tradition of painting and inspired by the art of non-European cultures, they found a new expression in keeping with the modern world.
